ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice is guided largely by the wonder of mark making; discovering gestures applied to an object in the midst of the cycle of growth, decay, transformation or preservation, and then collaborating within those processes to obtain new registrations. I consider the origins of materials- wool from local farmers, essential oils infused by myself or from local merchants, objects from my personal community, and dye made from fruits, vegetables, and herbs, in my kitchen- as part of the sustainability of my practice. In addition, as much as possible I create within the confines of the space where I live. The result is alchemy; I take what is low, and utilitarian, and make it high.
