ARTIST STATMENT Ordinary women, sports, the outdoors, health, societal ideas of femininity and the role of women. I find that these issues are so inescapably a part of who I am at this moment and who I have been for as long as I remember. It is no surprise then that I choose subjects, locations, drawing materials largely unconsciously according to such issues. I believe that the strongest art a person can create is a based on that person's empirical knowledge. Therefore, I take what I have learned in catholic school, on the soccer field or pole vault runway, in South Africa, through selling girl scout cookies, from living in a Greenpeace climbing gym in DC, working on a ship in Alaska, skating down Juda Street to work at KUMON in San Francisco, hitch hiking around and farming on a commune Kauai, or surfing Sands at UCSB and I put all that living into what I make with my hands.
