ELISE PRIESS
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an avid sailor and can’t help but see a number of similarities between my art practice and sailing. I always approach my work just like I would the ocean, with a great deal of preparation, as well as humility. Once on the water or immersed in the making of my work, I let my intuition guide me, and lead me to the discovery of a path I did not know could come to life in my work. I deem that one cannot control everything, and shamelessly confess that sometimes I just let the material speak. In this way I hope to demonstrate, and share, my strong belief in the power of emotions.
An incurable optimist, I reinvent my quotidian environment, populating it with serene or playful imaginary creatures, while always honoring my love and respect for materials.
